For a while now, NIKSTOCK STAFF has been using  2-way radio's for SECURITY  and NIKSTOCK OPERATIONS.  Now that there are literally hundreds of different types of Family Radios on the market,  NIKSTOCK finds it convenient to employ the use of these FRS Radio's for communications throughout the event. These inexpensive UHF FM  hand-held talkies start at about $60/pair and are available almost everywhere. They cover a 2-mile range... well beyond the 1/2 mile radius of NIKSTOCK. With 14 channels and 38 quiet codes per channel, they offer everybody the luxury of staying in touch at NIKSTOCK. We encourage everyone to bring their own radio's.  But First a few guidelines are in order.

What are "Quiet-Codes"?

Quiet codes are like a semi-private channel within a channel. While not really secure and private, they allow you to block all other activity on the channel out so you don't have to listen to all the other conversations on the channel that are not part of your group. There are 38 Quiet-Codes per channel, and 14 channels. Ultimately, that allows for 532 different groups in a given 2-mile radius.  If each band at the event  (40)  has 5 members and 5 guests, that puts over 400 people evenly spaced on only 2 channels. And that's conservative! So, you can see that with a little bit of organization, it's not that difficult to have over 3000 people with radio's at a large event like NIKSTOCK, and still be able to avoid confusion and channel clutter.   Please be considerate of others on the air...  don't tie-up the channel for long periods of time.
